We have heard that some services are keeping their children outdoors for most of the day to reduce the chance of them being deemed a close contact of any positive Covid-19 cases in their centre.

While this may be a good solution for some services that are set up for extended outdoor time, it is impractical for us to do this.  The centre has a Cancer Council Sun Smart policy which requires children to be indoors from at least 11.00am to 3.00pm, or longer depending on UV readings.  Our back yard does not have enough shade to support staying out of the sun and heat for the majority of the day.  There are also logistical issues related to supervision, meal times, toileting, rest and sleep, and children’s wellbeing.
